Introduction
Between February and September of this year, I became obsessed with learning German. I started at a B1 level, and on the 23rd of September, I passed my C1 exam. I can’t precisely recall what it felt like to live in Germany without speaking German, but it certainly didn’t feel like home. Something was always missing. After 7 months of learning German, I can now clearly see the difference. People around me, including a near-family-like member of a weekly dance class I’ve been attending for almost 3 years, have noticed it too. I connect better with those around me, and I feel more confident. It’s as if I’ve found my voice again. So, I wanted to share my story with other language learners living in foreign countries.
In the coming days, I will write about the following topics in this order:
- Motivation: Why did I decide to learn German again?
- What I did to improve in:
- Vocabulary
- Reading
- Listening
- Writing
- Speaking
- Materials that I consumed during my learning journey
